User Experience Research Director

User Experience Research Director Role
The User Experience Research Director will have the opportunity to lead a qual research practice and oversee a range of UX research studies for Fortune 500 clients. In this role, you will also be involved with helping to define new client services and influence the overall direction of the business.
Methodologies currently in our qualitative arsenal include one-on-one usability studies (remote and in-person), ethnography, contextual interviews, innovation and co-design workshops, journey mapping, eye-tracking, unmoderated usability studies, online and in-person focus groups, mobile device testing, card sorting, persona development, and other online user testing techniques.
This is a full-time position located in our New York City office.
What you can expect to do:
You will use your qualitative research expertise, mentoring skills, and creative problem solving abilities to impact our clients’ business by:
Overseeing project delivery from kickoff to results presentation to ensure high quality deliverables and impactful, business-driven insights
Building a trusted advisory relationship with clients in key industries, including financial services, retail, technology, among others
Presenting to a broad range of clients from designers to C-suite executives
Contributing to ongoing thought leadership on current topics and trends in UX
You will be an integral partner in helping to grow the qualitative practice by playing an advisory role throughout the sales process
Collaborating with business development and UX strategy teams to understand clients’ business needs and craft appropriate UX research solutions
Determining the optimal strategy for project execution including appropriate project staffing, research tools, and vendor partners
As the Director of our qualitative research practice, you will ensure that we remain the leader in the UX marketplace to provide innovative and impactful research solutions. You will also train and develop a world-class team of qualitative UX research experts to deliver exceptional user experience insights
Continually evolving the qualitative research product suite to ensure our offerings align with our clients’ business needs and stay current with UX trends
Guiding research staff throughout project delivery to facilitate growth and development of the team’s skillset
Providing input to the executive team on strategic business decisions for the qualitative practice
Evaluating and refining best practices for project delivery and training for our research team to execute best-in-class research
Identifying efficiencies and opportunities to scale offerings for maximum profitability
In order to qualify you need the following skills and experience:
5+ years of hands-on professional experience leading qualitative UX research, with the majority in client-facing environments
2+ years of professional experience leading a research practice
Leading consulting engagements with clients -- either in a research role or with a management consulting firm that uses qualitative analysis to support conclusions
Present and engage with business and research leaders in Fortune 500 companies
Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment, manage competing priorities, and be an independent problem-solver
Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead / facilitate discussions
Exceptional time management skills
Creating discussion guides, screeners, test protocols, and final reports
Using online/remote usability tools
Presentation skills, including building engaging PowerPoint presentations and sharing results and recommendations
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
